The prehistoric settlement is surrounded on its northwest and south sides by a strong wall with successive horseshoe-shaped bastions.

At the northeastern tip of Skyros, on the ridge of the low cape of Kastraki in Palamari Bay and at an altitude that does not exceed 20m. above sea level, a plateau with an area of ​​17 acres is formed, an entire settlement has come to light.

It is located on the NE coast of Skyros, 13 km. NW of Chora.

The settlement chronologically belongs to the period of the Early and Middle Bronze Age (3rd and 2nd millennium BC), and is truly an impressive discovery, as it has an organized urban structure with roads and central canals, flourished for more than a millennium and was abandoned at the end of the 17th BC century.

A key element of the importance of the ancient settlement at Palamari is the complex and strong fortification that is excellently preserved over a length of more than 200 m. and gives the settlement special importance.

It had almost twice the area of ​​the current 17 acres, as its entire eastern side and part of the northern have been submerged.

The settlement remained buried under the sand for 3,500 years.
